Love ‘Em or Hate ‘Em, They Rock! Escape The Fate Live in Manila
American post-hardcore band ESCAPE THE FATE epitomizes hard rock’s liberating and rebellious spirit, as they proved during their convention-defying set at PULP Summer Slam 15 last April 25, 2015 at Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City. PULP Live World and 28 Black proudly announces that the band is set to prove it anew here in Manila as they return for their very first solo concert this October 16, 2016 at Samsung Hall, SM Aura, Taguig.
Comprised of founding member Robert Ortiz (drums), Thomas “TJ” Bell (rhythm guitar, vocals), Kevin “Thrasher” Gruft (lead guitar) and enigmatic frontman Craig Mabbitt, the band has sold over a million albums and has made sold-out concert and festival appearances worldwide. Escape the Fate will make their Pinoy fans go wild this October 16 with hits and fan favorites such as “One for the Money,” “Situations,” This War is Ours (The Guillotine II),” “Not Good Enough for Truth in Cliché,” “Just a Memory,” and “Remember Every Scar,” among many others. In 2008, the band released their second full-length album titled This War is Ou rs . The record peaked at No. 35 on the US Billboard 200, No. 12 on the US Top Rock Albums chart, No. 8 on the Top Alternative Albums chart, and No. 2 on the US Top Independent Albums chart. Their self-titled 2010 release peaked at 25 on the Billboard 200, hit No. 4 on the US Top Rock chart, No. 3 on the US Top Alternative and Top Independent charts, and hit No. 1 on the US Hard Rock and Top Tastemaker album charts. Their 2013 follow-up, Ungrateful was equally strong on the charts having debuted at No. 27 on the Billboard 200 and peaking at No. 7 on the US Top Rock Albums chart, No. 6 on the US Top Alternative Albums chart, No. 5 on the US Top Independent Albums chart, and No. 2 on the US Top Hard Rock Albums chart. The band will be touring in support of their 2015 release Hate Me , which peaked at the Billboard US Album Chart at No. 58.
When asked about their creative process after all these years by PULP in an exclusive interview last 2015, Ortiz described it as “We’re definitely not making an attempt at ‘mainstream’ hard rock. It’s never been, ‘Let’s do what mainstream is doing,’ it’s always been, ‘Let’s do what we do and that will become mainstream.’ A lot of the sound comes from constant experimentation and increase in confidence. Early on it was just jamming stuff out and whatever felt right. Now it’s listening to it on our laptops. Other than some technical aspects, our approach hasn’t changed at all. Some songs will be more simple and you get the sense that those types of songs will likely be ‘the single.’ Some songs you pull out all the stops and go all out to try to write an epic masterpiece, or a brutal statement. The approach hasn’t changed, why the sound has, I’m not so sure.”
