More than “More Than Words”: Extreme’s Pornograffitti Live
Extreme lived up to their superlative name and outstanding rock and roll reputation when they delivered more than enough for fans in their Manila leg of the Pornograffitti Live Tour at the Samsung Hall last June 3. The boys from Boston proved how much their celebrated album stood the test of time as they dished out one song after another. Fans were treated to the raw power of the likes of “Decadence Dance” and “Get the Funk Out,” with Gary Cherone, Nuno Bettencourt, Pat Badger, and Kevin Figueiredo fired up the stage like it was the Bourbon Room. They played their most recognizable hit “More Than Words” right smack in the middle of their set, which only sent their fans into a frenzy for rest of their musical arsenal.
Much to the fans’ delight, the multitalented Bettencourt whipped out the twelve-string guitar for “Hole Hearted”, and the grand piano—with Badger on the upright bass—when they went Sinatra in their off-genre Pornograffitti track “When I First Kissed You”. Fans will always feel blessed with performances like these, where all songs from a legendary album come alive for the fans to relive the days of playing the album on endless repeat. Extreme’s performance is indeed one for the books and one for the memories.
