Little Mix Magic
What a flawless performance and a truly well-polished show. It was like a party with sparkly costumes!
It’s hard to believe that four years ago, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall each walked onto X Factor’s stage with just one dream – to each become a solo pop star. Just like One Direction, the judges decided to merge these talented girls to create the best British girl band since the Spice Girls.
The group’s first original single arrived in 2012 entitled “Wings”. The song became a huge commercial success, topping the charts in many countries. Last month, Manila got the chance to witness their talent, and the sold-out show was the girls’ first time visiting Manila to perform, yet the group had to add 500 meet-and-greet slots to cater to the demand from their fans.
Complete with glittering costume changes, Little Mix delivered high energy, top notch vocals and fierce dance moves on stage. The Get Weird tour was a spectacular, full of hits and girl power attitude with great interactions to Filipino Mixers. They kicked off the show on top of the staircase with “Grown”. The jam packed venue of 3000, mostly screaming teenage girls, were exploded when they walked down towards the crowd. Tonight is all about you! So let your hair down and have fun!,” screamed Perrie, before performing “Move”, a single from their second album, “Salute”.
After winning X-Factor, Jade, Perrie, Leigh-Anne, and Jesy have established themselves as one of Britain’s brightest pop acts and has sold eight million albums worldwide. The girls described the Get Weird Tour as “a celebration of being unique and not holding back” which is most evident in the song that helps them embrace their “inner weirdness”, ‘Weird People’. Whatever the pace of the show, the band’s personality never fails to shine through. “Change Your Life” and “Little Me” offer the rousing singalong moments. “Wings” and “Salute” have you shoulder popping.
“Secret Love Song” was released last year, and is on the top spot as the most streamed song of week in the Philippines as of June 4 it’s becoming one of their best selling singles. Its effect is on full display at KIA theater as the crowd embraces the emotions of the songs, and it easily gets the biggest reaction of the night.
Their medley of covers is something that really sets them apart from the rest of the pack, as they combine multiple tracks, making sure that there’s something for everyone. Their combination of the songs “Jump On It” ” “Crazy in Love”, “Where Are U Now”, “Fester Skank” and “Ring The Alarm” pays tribute to a variety of artists while still giving a fresh and unique spin on popular music from different generations. They ended the set with their biggest hit, “Black Magic,” Jesy, Jade, Perrie, and Leigh-Anne took a well-earned bow while the fans were still wanting for more songs.
Little Mix kept the audience entertained and hooked for the entire 90-minute set. All the seats on the floor and balcony area were in good positions. As soon as everyone stood up when the show started you could still easily see the performers. Dancers were really good, as well as the choreography and the girls kept up with the pace with no issue. A lot of young fans in the audience especially girls, thought the girl power, be strong, celebrate your differences were good messages.
