MAMAMOO officially debuted in 2014 with the extended play, Hello, led by “Mr. Ambiguous”. Their debut received praise from critics which considered it one of the debuts in K-Pop for 2014. “Mr. Ambiguous” entered the Gaon Digital Chart at number 53 and peaked at number 19. They then followed up Hello with the EP Piano Man and a single of the same name.
The following year, the girl group came out with Pink Funky and the single “Um Oh Ah Yeh”. The song gave the girls their first top-three single on the Gaon Chart. In 2016, they held their first solo concert in South Korea, the 2016 Mamamoo Concert-Moosical. The tickets to the show were sold out in one minute.
MAMAMOO continued their breakthroughs with their first studio album, Melting. The lead single, “You’re the Best”, debuted at number three on the Gaon Chart and peaked at number one the following week. In addition, the girl group received their first music show win with “You’re the Best”.
MAMAMOO then launched their “Four Seasons, Four Colors” album series in 2018, beginning with the pre-release single “Paint Me” in January. The group’s sixth EP, Yellow Flower, which included the single “Starry Night,” served as the inaugural entry in the album series. “Starry Night” became one of the group’s most successful singles, earning platinum certification from the Korean Music & Content Association for 100 million streams in November and 2.5 million paid downloads in July 2019.
The girl group continued the album series with Red Moon, with the single “Egotistic” in July 2018. Red Moon, which debuted at number 25, was the group’s first appearance on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Blue;s, the third album in the series, was released in November 2018, along with the single “Wind Flower.” In March 2019, Mamamoo released White Wind, the final piece of the “Four Seasons, Four Colors” album series, along with its lead track “Gogobebe.”
MAMAMOO competed in the Mnet reality show, Queendom, where they came in first place. Following the end of the show, the girl group released their second Korean studio album, Reality in Black, and its lead song, “Hip” in November. Reality in Black debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart, marking the group’s third number-one debut. Additionally, “Hip” reached the top of the Billboard World Digital Songs Sales chart, becoming their first number-one single.
In June 2021, they released their 11th EP, WAW, with the lead track “Where Are We Now”.
