Red Rain Will Fall – Slayer To Make Manila Live Debut at KIA Theatre
TRIBAL and PULP LIVE WORLD are proud to announce that two-time Grammy Award-winning thrash metal legends SLAYER are set to perform in Manila for the first time on October 11, 2017 at the KIA THEATRE, Cubao. Witness heavy metal history as bassist and vocalist Tom Araya, guitarist Kerry King, guitarist Gary Holt, and drummer Paul Bostaph perform their timeless anthems such as “Angel of Death,” “Raining Blood,” “War Ensemble,” “South of Heaven,” and many more.
Formed in 1981 in Huntington Park, California, with the original line-up including guitarist Jeff Hanneman (deceased) and drummer Dave Lombardo, the band is widely considered to be one of The Big Four of Thrash Metal along with Megadeth, Anthrax, and Metallica. Their albums Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, and Seasons in the Abyss are cited as seminal albums, paving the way for more extreme metal subgenres such as death metal and black metal.
Their latest full-length studio album Repentless was released on September 11, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records. It is their first album to feature the newest members in the line-up, Gary Holt (formerly of Exodus) and Paul Bostaph (formerly of Exodus and Testament). It is also the band’s first release without Jeff Hanneman. The founding member contracted necrotizing fasciitis from a spider bite back in early 2011, and sadly passed away of cirrhosis in May 2, 2013. As expected, it was difficult for the band to soldier on without Hanneman. Not only was the late guitarist heavily involved in the production of their albums, but he was also a huge part of the band’s songwriting.
“When we went into the studio, I was a little apprehensive,” Araya tells Loudwire. “Slayer is really the culmination of the two of them [Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King]. I felt it would be lopsided.”
Araya shared that even though Hanneman wasn’t able to record any of the songs on the record physically (he penned the track “Piano Wire”), he was present at rehearsals during the early stages of the album to listen to the songs and give his thoughts. This gave the band the confidence that Hanneman would’ve been proud of Repentless. Evidently, fans and critics agree. The album sold over 80,000 copies in the US alone and debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, their highest position yet in their native country. It also garnered generally positive reviews. “Slayer not only has something new to say on Repentless, but a new way to say it,” writes J.C. Macek III of Spectrum Culture, while Dom Lawson of The Guardian writes, “Slayer have always been a model of consistency and a band that fans of vicious, vein-bursting heavy metal can rely on.”
Just a few months after they experienced Megadeth at this year’s Pulp Summer Slam, Filipino metalheads are in for another treat. Get ready for this skull-crushing and blood-soaked thrash metal event that no self-respecting metalhead would want to miss. SLAYER IN MANILA is presented by TRIBAL and PULP LIVE WORLD.
