Never Too Cool for School: My School President 1st Fan Meeting in Manila
Instantly capturing the hearts of Boys Love fans all around Asia and the world, the musically-charged high school BL series My School President was met with rave reviews ever since it aired back in December 2022.
With a successfully received show, My School President, and top-trending episodes week after week, Asian fans were sure to get a fan meet stop in their city – and after making it to Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taipei, the cast finally landed in the Philippines last August 5, 2023!
Through Wish Us Luck Entertainment, fans were treated to a hefty fan meet with souvenirs, hi-touch and photo op fan benefits, and a performance-packed show – with everyone eagerly singing and dancing along to their favorite tracks from the series.
There’s A First Time For Everything: Meeting the cast of My School President
Before the show even began, the excitement was evident in the cast’s eyes – as Aun Napat (Kajorn), Captain Pheerawit (Yo), Prom Theepakon (Phat), Mark Pakin (Tiwson), Ford Arun (Por), Satang Kittiphop (Sound), Winny Thanawin (Win), Fourth Nattawat (Gun), and Gemini Norawit (Tinn) walked onto the stage to meet the press. They all expressed their excitement about finally meeting Filipino fans and making it as memorable as possible, as it was their first time ever in the Philippines for all nine of them.
On the topic of first times, Winny and Satang shared that filming their kiss scene in the series was one of the toughest scenes they had to do – being their first on-screen kiss ever. Mark also shared that he hopes his first time in the country won’t be his last, and that he’s looking forward to having the opportunity to visit the Philippines again to see the beaches and explore its many islands.
When Philippine Concerts asked the cast about which My School President character resembled their own high school selves, most of the cast including Gemini, Ford, Winny, Satang, and Prom said they very much identified with Gun. Aun and Captain said that they were close to their on-screen characters of Kajorn and Yo, respectively. While Fourth shared that he sees himself as half-Gun and half-Tinn, and interestingly, Mark answered that he saw more of his high school self in Tinn’s mom, the school principal.
Before preparing for the show, the cast shared their message of thanks to the fans – hoping for the fans’ continued support as they put on their best show possible for Filipinos. Gemini expressed his excitement to hear Filipino fans sing along, after hearing about how Filipinos are wonderful singers, while Fourth practiced his “mahal ko kayo” message to fans and wished for everyone to be able to pursue their passions and be able to take every opportunity.
The Soundtrack of Our (High School) Lives
After a scream-filled countdown, the boys opened the show with a performance of the series main theme song – “You’ve Got Ma Back (ไหล่เธอ) – all dressed in their high school uniforms, as fans sang and danced along to show Manila’s unbeatable energy.
As with most fan meets, the boys treated the audience with a moment to get to know them better through a quiz bee game. Divided into Team N’Lion (Gemini, Satang, Ford, Aun, and Captain) and Team Chinzilla (Fourth, Winny, Mark, and Prom), the boys were asked questions about math, science, and physical education. Team Chinzilla ended up winning over Team N’Lion with 5 points, despite being 1 member short.
After the chaotic quiz bee game were back-to-back performances from the entire cast, with Captain, Aun, and Prom starting off with their version of “Smile Please (ง้อว)”, followed by Ford and Mark serenading fans with “Come Closer (อีกนิด)”, then Satang and Winny taking the stage to sing “No One Else Like Me (ถ้าไม่ใช่)”, with Gemini and Fourth capping of the medley with “Hook (เพลงรัก)”.
The boys then went back on stage for another game – this time, a debate between Team Red (Gemini, Mark, Winny, Captain, and Prom) versus Team White (Fourth, Satang, Forn, and Aun). They were asked to defend their stance for one minute, including their choice of a better after-school snack between Thai Pork Barbecue or Shaved Ice, both staple snacks from the show. Team Red took the win for the game, with Gemini pulling out all the stops to defend his team’s take.
Separated By Waters, Together In Music
With the fan meet coming to an end, the cast prepared to close the show by sharing their tearful message of thanks to all the fans – but to their surprise, they were asked to turn their gaze to the screen, where a fan project video played with clips from the many My School President fan clubs around the country. As they turned back around to face the audience, the fans held up their lights and placards with everyone singing to express their gratitude to the boys.
After a group photo with the entire theater, the cast went on to perform their last song – “Once Upon a Time (แค่ครั้งเดียว)”, basking in a moment of love and light with their Filipino fans.
The fan meet ended with group photos and hi-touch interactions for select ticket holders, with both the cast and the fans enjoying every single second of their interaction. The boys were clearly amused to be up close and personal with their fans, as they all laughed and played around the entire time – a moment that the cast and fans will surely cherish for their lifetimes.
